myflexbox is celebrating its next big anniversary: the 1000th parcel locker has been set up in Leipzig. This means that the 400 mark was broken in Germany almost at the same time. By comparison, in the pioneering Austrian market, parcel transactions can be handled flexibly at over 600 locations to date. With this expansion, the smart city company is underpinning its leading role in the area of carrier-neutral last-mile infrastructure in German-speaking countries.

Munich/Leipzig, December 2, 2024 – Since its foundation in 2018, myflexbox has grown rapidly and established itself as a leading provider of flexible, sustainable logistics solutions. From its beginnings as a corporate start-up of Salzburg AG, the company has developed into an independent and neutral pioneer in the field of agnostic and environmentally friendly last-mile logistics.

The networked myflexbox parcel lockers offer consumers secure and convenient services around the clock from several (in Austria even all) major parcel services. More than 43,000 lockers are available in over 100 Austrian cities, while in Germany there are around 30,000 lockers in over 80 cities, 37 of which are in the top 80 cities (> 100,000 inhabitants).

With neutrality to success

Unlike other networks, myflexbox is not owned by a parcel service, but by financial investors from the infrastructure sector and the Green Tech Company Salzburg AG. Without pursuing its own interests as a parcel service provider or competing with them, the myflexbox network unites all parcel services in one system without favoring any individual. This neutrality is reflected in the DNA of the entire company and is one of the reasons for the unique variety of technical integrations in an open network in Europe.

Future vision for urban logistics

myflexbox remains on course for growth. The company offers cities, municipalities, housing associations, petrol stations, retailers and many others a concrete contribution to traffic reduction and CO₂ savings on the first and last mile. The annual saving of tons of CO₂ through a parcel locker network is an important smart city building block for achieving the climate neutrality targets. The focus is therefore on further densifying the network in order to further reduce the walking distance to the home. The more parcel lockers are within the slipper distance, the more often people will leave their cars at home.

From 1 to 1000: a chronicle of success

2018 – The hour of birth: myflexbox starts as a corporate venture of Green Tech Company Salzburg AG. Inspired by the internal need for a flexible locker system for the secure exchange of IT devices, the company begins its journey with the aim of creating an open network for all providers and users.

2019 – Pilot phase: The first pilot projects are launched together with the first integrated pioneer partner DPD Austria. The first myflexbox parcel locker goes into operation in front of the parent company’s Salzburg headquarters in October.

2020 – Expansion and digitalization: myflexbox focuses on expansion and cooperation with logistics service providers to reduce CO₂ emissions in the shipping process. The official marketing launch with a website and social media increases awareness.

2021 – The network grows: myflexbox expands rapidly and reaches the 100 parcel lockers mark. Strategic partnerships with DHL Express and UPS follow – an important step that massively increases the flexibility and service level of the network.

2022 – International expansion: With the expansion into new cities and partnerships in Germany and Austria, myflexbox establishes itself as the largest carrier-neutral smart locker network in the DACH region. The parcel lockers reduce congestion and CO₂ emissions by efficiently managing the flood of parcels through shared delivery points. GLS Austria joins the network.

2023 – Sustainable infrastructure for cities: myflexbox establishes itself as a key player in urban logistics by working with local authorities and housing associations. The partnership with FedEx begins. In fall 2023, the network comprises over 500 parcel lockers that reduce traffic and noise pollution in residential areas.

September 2024 – Unique in Europe: Österreichische Post AG joins the myflexbox network, uniting all major parcel service providers under one parcel locker umbrella.

December 2024 – The 1000th station in Leipzig: In just six years, myflexbox has built up an impressive network density. This development shows that smart, networked logistics solutions are not only proving their worth in large cities, but also in smaller towns, meeting the needs of citizens for flexible and ecologically responsible parcel logistics.
