Improving neighborhoods together: myflexbox and LEG establish smart locker network in NRW

myflexbox and LEG Immobilien SE are joining forces in terms of sustainability and showing how the responsible use of resources can be combined with improved living space. As part of this cooperation, a nationwide network of smart parcel lockers is being created in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The smart lockers at LEG locations offer a high degree of flexibility in eight cities: Cologne, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Essen, Duisburg, Münster, Mönchengladbach and Gelsenkirchen. The first 30 stations of the carrier-neutral myflexbox network at LEG’s residential properties in North Rhine-Westphalia are already in operation or will go live by the end of February 2024. The partnership will be expanded to other cities and locations over the course of the next year.

LEG, itself a provider of green and digital solutions for the residential real estate sector, is now using the open platform from myflexbox in its neighborhoods. Thanks to the intelligent networking of parcel lockers in an open system and the bundling of several service providers and services in a small space, the smart logistics solution helps to reduce CO₂ emissions over the last mile. Residents can, for example, collect, send and return several consignments from different parcel service providers, local retailers and e-commerce companies from one myflexbox – conveniently, contactlessly and around the clock.

Win-win in the residential area

With this collaboration, LEG is seizing the opportunity to make a valuable contribution to reducing both delivery and collection traffic in urban areas. Delivery traffic is bundled and the delivery process optimized. The result: fewer routes and less traffic, and therefore less delivery and parking chaos. Residents avoid collection slips in their letterboxes and extra trips to parcel stores or branches, which are often further away and only open at certain times. Parcels and goods are safely stored close to home and can be conveniently collected at any time.

Cities are the key

For Lukas Wieser, CO-CEO & founder of myflexbox, this is just the beginning. “We are delighted that we are now significantly advancing the nationwide expansion of our Smart Locker network in Germany with LEG. After all, each individual parcel locker increases the efficiency of the entire network in North Rhine-Westphalia and throughout Germany. And an urban logistics solution in line with ecological responsibility and sustainability also supports the transformation to a smart city.”
Annika Harbig, responsible for the cooperation with myflexbox at LEG Immobilien SE, adds: “As LEG, we are making a decisive contribution to the decarbonization of residential buildings. To this end, we are working with professional partners to develop a wide range of green and digital solutions for the entire sector. But climate protection does not end at the property boundary. For us, the collaboration with myflexbox is a further step towards holistic CO₂ reduction, which also boosts customer satisfaction and is worthwhile for everyone involved.”

Environmental protection in everyday life

The cooperation reflects both companies’ commitment to climate protection. The shared vision of liveable and climate-neutral living spaces unites the collaboration. Speaking of living spaces: inner-city logistics are designed to be sustainable precisely where they can be most effective, namely where many people live. According to a recent study, which also analyzed the German market, bundled delivery traffic in parcel delivery saves four to nine times as much individual traffic and thus relieves the burden on city centers¹.
This gives everyone who uses the networked parcel lockers the chance to actively do something to reduce CO₂ emissions. The reward: the greatest possible flexibility, valuable free time and a more liveable environment.
